Practitioner Reading List
I learned a lot today. I found it to very helpful that I've been practicing Scrum for about 10 months and then had the opportunity to take this course. It was great to be able to apply the theory and results of the exercises to some of my real work situations.
I've been live blogging on Twitter at the breaks and lunch ( www.twitter.com/jasonlittle ) and also started up a Plog at http://plog.jasonlittle.ca to track my own progress through the course.
From the reading I've done, I was never really convinced we were using Scrum properly and what I learned today confirmed it. We are using parts of Scrum, but break the basic skeleton and rules for what is masked as "being Agile". For example, I've talked to others about "Agile" being about using the rules you like and throwing out what you don't like. When I disagree on that point I get "well, you're not Agile then..."
The biggest lesson I learned today is that implementing Scrum is LOT harder than most people think. Looking forward to Day 2, hopefully more of my peers from this course will start blogging here, this site is a great resource.
